U16 FOOTBALL
SECOND TEAM COMPETITION SEMI FINAL
Like their No 1 Team counterparts Na Fianna
U16 Footballers No 2 Team also have a Championship Final to look forward to as
they secured their place in the U16 Second Team Competition Final with a big
win over neighbours St Vincents in the Semi Final last Monday week in Geashill
on a scoreline of 2-16 to 0-05. St Vincents were first off the mark with the
opening point from a free in the 3rd minute with Na Fianna responding
immediately by opening their account with their first point from Jamie Lynam.
Na Fianna then took the lead with Adam Kehoe’s first 2 points before St
Vincents got their second point in the 10th minute. That is how it would remain
until the last 5 minutes of the half by which time Na Fianna’s wide count was
over double their score count but that was rectified from there to the half
time whistle as Na Fianna hit 6 points in a row from Adam Kehoe (3), Ciaran
Hannigan & Ethan Henry (2). That gave Na Fianna a 7 point lead at the break
0-09 to 0-02. Inside the first minute of the second half Na Fianna brought
their tally into double figures with a point from Cathal Sheil with the sides
adding 2 points apiece by the midpoint of the half with Kaiden Monahan &
Adam Kehoe on target for Na Fianna. Then in the 19th minute Na Fianna struck
for their first goal finished by Ciaran Hannigan. A further 2 points followed
for Na Fianna before they grabbed their second goal in the 23rd minute dispatched
by sub Ben Wallace. The sides then added a further point apiece before Fionan
Connolly wrapped it up with the final point for Na Fianna in stoppage time. The
win puts Na Fianna through to the Final against Ferbane / Belmont on Sunday
05th October.

U16 FOOTBALL
SECOND TEAM COMPETITION FINAL
The title success continues for Na Fianna
Football Club as fresh from their success in winning the U14 B title the
previous Sunday some of those same players played their part in helping Na
Fianna U16 Second Team capture another title as they emerged victorious in the
U16 2nds Football Competition Final against Ferbane / Belmont last Sunday
morning in Ballinamere on a scoreline of 2-11 to 2-09. Playing against the
breeze in the first half Na Fianna came flying out of the blocks opening the
scoring with the first 3 points in a row inside the first 5 minutes scored by
Ben Wallace, Adam Kehoe and Fionnan Connolly before following it up with their
first goal in the 8th minute when Adam Kehoe’s 20m free was held up by the wind
with the in-running Ben Wallace quickest to react to punch it to the net. Na
Fianna added a pointed free from Adam Kehoe before Ferbane / Belmont got off
the mark with their first point in the 13th minute followed by 2 more over the
next 10 minutes. Na Fianna were awarded a penalty in the 26th minute for a foul
on Ciaran Hannigan and despite hitting the net with his first attempt Adam
Kehoe was ordered to retake it due to encroaching the outcome was the same
second time round as he again struck it to the right corner of the net for goal
no 2. F/B added a pointed free in stoppage time so at the break it was the
goals that was the difference between them at the break as Na Fianna led 2-04
to 0-04. With the wind behind them in the second half it might have been
expected to be a comfortable win for Na Fianna but it proved to be anything but
as the second half was a tale of the 2 pointers. F/B were first off the mark
with a point in the 3rd minute followed by their first goal in the 6th minute
when a Na Fianna kickout was blocked down and run through to shoot to the net.
Na Fianna responded with 2 points from Jamie Lynam and Ben Wallace to F/B’s 1
before Na Fianna got the first of those 2 pointers in the 18th minute from a
free out on the left wing from Adam Kehoe. F/B weren’t giving up and came back
by grabbing their second goal in the 23rd minute from the left edge of the
square to the top right corner of the net followed in the 25th minute by a 2
pointer free against the wind to draw the sides level. A further point apiece
followed to leave the sides still level as the game moved into stoppage time
and a minute into that Na Fianna were awarded a free well outside the 45 and
step forward Adam Kehoe to be the hero as he powerfully sent the ball well over
the blackspot for his and Na Fianna’s second 2 pointer and what would prove to
be the winning score. In the 5th minute of injury time Na Fianna were awarded
their second penalty when Kaiden Monahan was upended which Adam Kehoe again
took and this time the F/B keeper guessed correctly as he made the save but the
score was not needed as moments later the final whistle was blown. There was
great scenes of delight as Na Fianna captain Cormac Ryan was presented with the
winning trophy by match referee and County Board representative Sean Donoghue.
Well done to all the players and management.
